Her Faith is in Jesus Christ (Oh Really?)

Jesus?

Is this the image of Jesus that Conservatives have in mind?

Here's the Problem in a Nutshell

Minnesota State Rep. Mary Franson explained why she's not concerned about climate change: "My faith is in Jesus Christ."

Here's her diatribe

During a House Capital Investment Committee hearing on Tuesday, a Republican lawmaker argued that Minnesotans didn’t need to worry about the impact of climate change because the Bible taught her it’s irrelevant.

Minnesota State Rep. Mary Franson has been in office since 2011 and she’s carved out a niche as one of the least thoughtful members of the legislature, pushing anti-abortion bills, getting angry when the House Chaplain delivered an invocation mentioning Earth Day (which she also called a “Pagan holiday”), trashing transgender people, and comparing survivors of a mass shooting to Hitler Youth.

The hearing on Tuesday featured researchers from the University of Minnesota discussing a report (which the committee asked them to produce) on “how Minnesota can better prepare its infrastructure for a changing climate.” It was experts speaking to policy makers—the sort of exchange you hope to see in a functioning government. It’s also a matter of urgency. Just last week, Minnesota’s Pollution Control Agency issued a report saying that failure to adapt to climate change could cost the state up to $57 billion a year by the end of the century.

After they finished their presentation, Franson, the co-chair of the committee, effectively said she didn’t give a shit what the researchers said about the effects of climate change because, as a Christian, she believed the whole thing was a hoax.

In the spirit of trusting Jesus to solve every problem, I do have a few other questions supplied by Its all about Jesus

If Jesus is the answer, what question does the Second Amendment address? Why do you need the Second Amendment?

Shouldn't your god protect you from violence?

If you believe in Jesus, why do you need gun rights and body armor? If Jesus can stop a tornado, why can't he stop a bullet? Why airbags, seatbelts, and child seats? How can you get in an accident if Jesus has the wheel? Why do we need TSA? Or metal detectors? Or ICE? Shouldn't your faith in Jesus secure the border? Why voter ID? Where's your faith in Jesus when it comes to elections?

Why attack Iran? If Jesus can control the entire global climate, surely he can handle a couple of Ayatollahs?

Maybe this is all on you. Maybe you're not praying hard enough.

No?

No, of course. Because it's all a crock. Your religion is your politics. You really don't think Jesus is going to fix the climate, do you?

What? You think you can throw their garbage in the oceans, burn the forests, pollute the air, drill Baby drill, and instead of having to face the consequences, Jesus will show up and whisk you away in the rapture to Christian Heaven, where you get to live in paradise while smugly laughing at the sinners burning down below.

That's quite literally modern Republicanism, violence and gluttony and supersized coal-rolling writ large and somebody else will clean up the mess. It's literally the capitalist philosophy of "All profit is private. All cleanup is for the suckers who pay taxes"
